Royal Wedding, a one-off drama written by Bafta-winning Abi Morgan, is set against the backdrop of 1981's much-celebrated marriage of the then Lady Diana Spencer to HRH Charles, Prince of Wales.Married to aspiring musician Johnny, and mother to a teenage daughter, Tammy, Linda Caddick dreams of escaping her small-town existence and doing something more with her life.Linda and her colleagues in the local factory are beginning to feel the effects of Margaret Thatcher's free market policies when they find out they are losing their jobs. Her best friend, Bev, is furious and vows to extract revenge on factory boss Alan, while Linda dreams of using her pay-off money to travel – and she believes her secret affair with married Alan holds the key to her leaving her old life behind.Meanwhile, daughter Tammy is busy making preparations for the street party to celebrate the Royal wedding. An idealistic teenager, Tammy idolises Diana and dreams of finding her own Prince Charming.On the day of the wedding the neighbours are bought together at the party to celebrate.
